I love Cynthia Rylant and have several of her books, but I wasn't familiar with Lighthouse Family: The Storm. It's a great book to use as an introduction to chapter books. This freebie has a sheet for students to use for note taking on each chapter. When they have finished, they make a timeline on the story. This helps them see the progression of the plot from the beginning of the story to the last chapter. It also includes a sheet for a character study, including a section for using the illustrations to learn about the character. Students also determine the theme of the story and justify their thoughts.

Don't forget to comment so I'll know how you use the text exemplars in your class.
Hi Mary! Thanks for the freebie! Our second graders do a huge lighthouse unit! I can't wait to share it with the second grade team!

I haven't read this book, but it looks interesting for my kiddos in NC. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great. I love the idea of a graphic organizer like this for the chapters and character etc. I'm going to be looking for this book - seems like a good one for my summer school program.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
