100th Day Fun! - Freebie

Today was our 100th Day of School. My eyes are still dry from all the baby powder I had in my hair!

We did several activities with a theme of 100.

One of my favorites was a very simple one.

We made an acrostic poem about all the things we want one hundred of! (I just couldn't figure out any other way to get that preposition anywhere but at the end of the sentence!)

If you'd like the file, just click on the pic above.

We also did the activities from my 100 Day packet. You can click {HERE} for a 100 Day Scoot freebie.

Here's a pic of two of my teammates and me (in the middle) in our old lady outfits. We had fun and our kiddos loved it!

Thanks to all of you, my blog following is just growing and growing. I have several blogging friends who are going to join me for a special giveaway celebration to celebrate my blog reaching 1100 followers AND my new Teachers Pay Teachers store reaching 100 followers. It's only been open a week and I'm already over 60!
I'm adding products all the time, so be sure you check both the TpT store and my Teachers Notebook stores.

My latest addition is a dinosaur themed board game for practicing the 600 Fry words. It's available on the store for $2.00 a set, or $8.00 for all six packets if you purchase the big file! (Instead of $12.00 if you buy them separately!)

BUT.....if you are one of the first five followers to leave a comment with your name and email address, I'll send you your own copy of all six games. Please be sure you follow my TpT store and my blog!

If you would like to contribute a product or other item to my giveaway, just leave me a comment below and I'll get back with you on the details.

Expanding the Kingdom - Sentence Freebie

I'm trying everything I can think of to give my kiddos good models for practicing sentence writing. I'm hoping this arranging activity will fit the bill.
The cards can all be arranged to create compound sentences, so they kiddos are going to have to really think about this!
Just click on the pic above to get the file.
This is part of a new packet I've posted on both my Teachers Pay Teachers and Teachers Notebook stores. Click on the store links at the right if you want info on the entire packet.

I would be royally pleased if you could leave a compound sentence as a comment, and I hope you will follow my Teachers Pay Teachers and TeacherNotebook Stores! :)

Mirroring Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive pronouns mirror another noun or pronoun in a sentence. This activity is a little different than the ones I've posted so far.
Students are given the reflexive pronoun in a sentence and must identify the word it "reflects."

Just click on the pic above to download the activity.

Hoot Owl Possessives - Freebie

One of the easiest ways I've learned to get students to distinguish between singular and plural possessive nouns is to have them highlight the apostrophe in the word. Next, use a different color highlighter to highlight everything to the left of the apostrophe. That helps them see the base word before the apostrophe is added.
Here is a quick activity to use with the highlighters.

Reflexive Pronouns - Freebie!

Holy moley, guacamole! Reflexive pronouns in second grade!
We need practice, practice, practice!

It's hard to use reflexive pronouns correctly if you don't really "get" pronouns!
I predict lots of literacy station work and reviews in our future!
If your kiddos need practice, too, then click on the pic of the penguin above to get the activity.
If you would like even more activities on all different types of pronouns, click {HERE} to purchase the entire unit from my brand new Teachers Pay Teachers store! Please follow me while you are visiting so you keep up with all the new products I post!

Since I can't leave a comment for MYSELF, will you? Please tell me what you do for reflexive pronouns!

Save the Pronouns! - Freebie

Second graders have to be able to use reflexive pronouns as part of the Common Core ELA Standards. Mine aren't quite ready yet, so we are going to review pronouns for a couple of days.
I'm using this game in a literacy station to review.
Click on the pic above if you need a quick pronoun review.

Poetry Activities

My kids are really getting into reading poetry.....lots more than I thought they would.

Each kiddo got their own copy of the poem to add to their poetry journal. We drew boxes around each stanza, highlighted rhyming words, underlined examples of repetition, and marked examples of alliteration.
I think their favorite part is determining the rhythm of the poem.

We started by clapping to a simple song they had done in Music class. I kept clapping while I was talking, so that they could see that regular talking doesn't have a rhythm. We kept clapping while I read the poem, then they read it with me.

We moved into marking the lines of poetry.
We used dots for unstressed syllables and lines for the emphasized syllables.
They've been clapping and trying to make regular beats out of ordinary conversation!
We also added a foldable of poetry elements to our Reading Journals.

We're concentrating on poetry for a few more weeks. I think I'm going to have to step up my original plans. My kiddos are really getting into this!

Leave a comment with your favorite ideas and activities for poetry.

My Heart Belongs to You - Freebie

We've got a lot of skills coming up in the next few weeks. One is using apostrophes to make possessives.
Here's a game for two players or small groups. They read the sentence, decide how to spell the possessive, and cover up a heart if they are correct.
First player to cover all of their card wins the game.

Click on the pic above to get the game.

I'd love a comment to see if your kids liked the game. I haven't made one like this before. If you need more possessive noun activities, visit my Teachers Notebook Shop for more.

Simple and Compound Sentences Sort - Freebie!

We begin writing compound sentences this week.
My kiddos have done a pretty good job expanding simple sentences, so I'm hoping that will carry over to writing compound sentences. Once I think they know the difference between a simple and compound sentence, I'll use this activity as a quick formative assessment in small groups.
Click on the pic above to get your copy. If you like this activity, go {HERE} for more compound sentence activities at my Teachers Notebook Shop.
Can you leave a compound sentence as a comment? :)
