It's Your Chance to Crow!

What a day! It was our first day back since Christmas Break because of the cold weather. The kids were either tiiiiiiiirrrrreeeeed and slooooooooow or H.Y.P.E.R. and on the ceiling!
Every group was different today. My teaching partner and I co-taught on several activities, which helped because we had to really work to get the kids' attention. I couldn't have gotten through the day without her.
If your first day back was like ours, you deserve a treat.

Tonight's giveaway is a little different.
It's your chance to crow about someone who helps make your teaching life easier.

To win, you must leave a comment below. In your comment, tell me about some teacher in your building, your district, or in blogging-land that you can't do without. Tell me why this teacher deserves to win. If I pick your comment, not only does your compadre win, but you do, too! Each of you gets to pick two items from my store.
You have until six o'clock central time tomorrow (Friday) to get your comment in. Please be sure to include your email address. If you are the winner, I will contact you to get the email address of your co-winner.
Here's your chance to show a teaching friend that they are appreciated!

Ready……Set…...Crow!

  1. In October, we went to a district workshop for Common Core support. One of the workshops I attended was our third grade level class. There was an ELA third grade teacher who offered to share her reading passages/questions based on standards. She had set up Common Core passages with a margin for kid's to jot notes on the side. I left the conference and forgot to email her. During the holidays I had email Lauren to see if her offer was still available. She sent me the info in ten minutes. Also, she offered to meet with us after school to continue our discussion. How wonderful! To top it off she attended our school as a student. Lauren would be my pick for a teacher who should win! Thanks to you for all your wonderful work. I love your site!

    3. I let my husband read my comment and your reply about winning. He said," Do you know why you won?" I said," What do you mean?" My husband said," you submitted your comment when the angels come." It was 11:11 when I wrote you. So I guess you were my angel.
Thanks again, Joanie DuCarpe Third Grade

  2. Oooh, what a great idea you've had Mary! I'd love to give a "shout out" to my neighbor teacher, she's grade 2 and I'm grade 3. I cannot count the number of times she has made my day, by sharing a laugh, a knowing look or sometime a shoulder to cry on. I am thankful for her each and everyday. She is also an awesome teacher that inspires me to be the best teacher I can be as well. That's why I would love for her to have a few of your awesome activities.

  3. I have 2 friends however I realize I can only choose one but felt they both needed recognition. They are Mrs. Hopper and Mrs. Marshall. They both teach in inner city schools. One in Pittsburgh, PA and the other in Greensboro, N.C. They are both so devoted to their students providing them with things they need in school and even necessities at home to further the children's education even though the children are most often at a disadvantage because of economic and other reasons. They stay after work hours tutoring children without pay because they care for their students. One stays until 7-8pm every day tutoring her students. They provided their children with gifts at Christmas and found ways to provide thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to some of the more needy families. I could go on and on about the both of them because there is a lot I haven't mentioned because time and space will not allow for it but thanks to them and other devoted teachers who love their children and go the extra mile to show their love for teaching :D
    Thanks :)

  4. I'd like to give props to my friend first and co-worker second, Lana. She is awesome. Days I don't see her are just not as great. Not only is she an awesome teacher, but she cares about those she works with. She is my sounding board when parents, students, or others in the building have gotten me down.

  5. Choosing one teacher is extremely hard, however, there is a teacher in our district who is helping all teachers who need/want help weekly with the new common core math curriculum. Every week she stays two evenings to conduct math inservice training. She shares her plans with us, and since she is a week ahead of us, she is able to tell us the strategies that worked well and help us change the strategies that didn't work for her, so that we will have a better lesson. There is no way any of us could afford to pay for her expertise, and she gives it to us for only a commitment of a little of our time.

  6. I met Kathy at the first training that I attended in our district as a new teacher 13 years ago. She was new to our district, also, but we were in the same building. I taught third, and she was our intervention specialist. I have never seen a women so dedicated to her profession. She spends every minute of her day working with children helping them to work to their full potential. Even with her day and class full she still can find the time to help a child that she's not responsible for. She's always the first to offer assistance and time. Kathy has given up her lunch period daily to work with children, talk with children and even walk laps with a child during lunch recess to wear out his excess energy. She spends her own money on manipulatives, games, food and also clothing for our students who don't have the right shoes, coats, hats, gloves or their clothes are too small. She's bought several pairs of glasses for students. She truly sees the best in all children and is constantly working to improve her teaching and our students' lives. Kathy doesn't expect praise for all that she does, she just continues to do it.

  7. I am lucky to be teaching across the hall from Heidi Samuelson, she blogs as Mrs. Samuelson's Swamp Frogs. She was chosen this year to have the "Model Math Classroom" for our district and has won a prestigious Technology Award. Not only does she win awards, but she shares everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that she creates with others. She is an amazing colleague and friend.

  8. Mrs. Wilson was my mentor teacher when I started teaching 1st grade. She was a life-saver. She helped me in so many ways, from helping me create lessons, talk to parents; she was there for me every step of the way. I taught 1st grade for a year and then had to follow the large class up to second grade. Mrs. Wilson continued to be a great friend and role model. After teaching second grade for several years, she and I decided we wanted to be together again teaching and helping each other. This school year we decided to switch grade levels and school building within our district. We now teach third grade together right next door. We love teaching together. I would not be able to survive this year without her. Her and I spend hours collaborating together, sharing the work load to build our files, since we have started over from scratch with bare filing cabinets, helping each other get through all the new things that go along with a new building and new grade. She has been just a blessing to me and I really would not be able to do it without her. She is truly an inspiration.

  9. I am lucky to have a whole building of teachers who are great to work with. We all get along very well and share ideas with each other. One teacher who stands out though is Mrs. Hansen. She is currently teaching 2nd grade and moved there from 3rd grade when I was teaching 2nd one year (I've taught lots of different things, now Title 1 Reading). She is always there to listen as a friend and a colleague. She shares everything with me. I know that if I ever need anything I can go into her room and get it, I even know where most everything is. She is a great teacher and takes that extra step to help her students with whatever it is they are struggling with as well as tries to push those who are beyond the others. Mrs. Hansen is one who is willing to try new things and even though she might be a little afraid of new technology things that come out she gets in there and tries it and wants to have it in her classroom for her children to use and learn from. I would be sad if she wasn't down the hall to "yell" to when I needed something or just someone to talk to and don't know what I would do without her. :)

  11. While I do not know her, Ashleigh from education journey blog has helped me enormously. As a second year third grade teacher, the rest of my career in K, I look to Ashleigh for lessons and centers on a weekly basis. This is such a great idea, thanks for letting us crow about others!

  12. My can't live without person is Sandy Bruno. When I was reassigned from second grade to kindergarten, I was very worried and felt like I didn't know what to do. Sandy came along side me and held my hand and mentored my in so many ways. She helped me with curriculum and projects, but most of all she reminded me daily that I was a good teacher getting better at teaching kindergarten each day. She was my teacher next door. The one who is referred to in the saying: "Good teachers are made by the teacher next door". Sandy is the best. We have become best friends as well as super colleagues. She should win.

  13. I absolutely love your website! I also am thankful for Amy Lemons. I am a new teacher and could not have made without websites like yours. A lot of times, I have great ideas; however, I do not have the means of putting them into a center, etc. Therefore, I rely on great people like you and Amy. Thank you for your time and dedication to helping my life be a little bit easier.

    God Bless,
