Valentine Divison Scoot -- Freebie!

Are you beginning to plan your Valentine-themed activities with your kiddos?

Here's a great activity to use as either a whole-class Scoot game or in a center for practice in using division to solve word problems.

If you use it as a Scoot game, put one problem card on different desks around the room. Students can work alone or with a partner to rotate through the cards. After they work one problem, they find the next card. For a little bit of fun, add a timer and give them five or six minutes at each card before they have to move on. Give students blank paper to use to record their answers.

If you have some students needing more practice working word problems, punch holes in the cards and put them on a ring. Place the cards in one of your math stations.

Do You Use Math Journals?

Do you use math journals?
I always have good intentions, but never followed through all year until this past school year.
I really liked that we could use them as a way to review before our end of year testing.
I found that a little bit of prep work helped keep me on track. For instance, we worked hard all year  using expressions, equations, and models to help solve word problems. I printed out word problems ahead of time and kept them handy for the beginning of math class. Right after our calendar time, we grabbed the word problems, glued them in our journals, and got to work.

I've taken this to a higher level with a twist on the same idea. Instead of giving the kiddos a word problem, I'm giving them an answer and requiring them to write a multiplication word problem.
After filling out the info in the grid, they write an explanation for their work on the back. They must use complete sentences.

I've added a new product to my stores that includes 30 slides for large group work and 30 smaller versions in black and white to be glued in journals or placed in math stations.

Halloween Word Problems - Freebie

We are working so hard on using unknowns in equations, drawing pictures to show solutions, and writing sentences to explain how we got the solution.
Here are some Halloween-related word problems you can give your students for extra practice. Glue them into math journals, work them in small groups, project them on your whiteboard...whatever it takes to help the kiddos!
Just click on the pumpkin above to download the doc.
