Boot Scootin' Freebies!

I'm joining up with some boot scootin' Tennessee teachers for a
Boot Scootin' Blog Hop!
If you haven't seen the beginning of the hop, click on the blue pic below to go to the first post at Kickin' It In Kindergarten. Follow the blog hop for some great freebies for grades K-2.

My freebie is geared to helping my kiddos make better word choices when they are writing. We have worked hard to use synonyms that might paint a better picture when we are writing. They know not to use good, nice, fun, run, or walk if they can think of a better word. Click on the pic below to get the freebie.

Word choice has just been one part of our focus this year. We have worked hard on writing sentences. Click on the pic below to see one of my  products in my TpT store that I use in my literacy stations. It's a baseball-themed packet of activities focusing on expanding sentences.

Click on the button below to visit Teaching Times 2, the next stop in the Boot Scootin' Blog Hop. They are twins who get to teach in the same school. How fun is that!!

If you purchase two products from my store and send me the receipt, I'll send you a product of your choice free. Just email me a copy of your receipt and your choice of a free product, and I'll get your goodie right out to you!

And if you prove you are a follower of both stores, I'll send you another free product! No purchase is necessary! Just send me an email with the name you use to follow, a screen shot from both stores that show you as "Following," and I'll send the free product to you. Please follow BOTH stores to get the deal! I'll close this offer on Sunday, April 15, at midnight. My email is pitnerm107 at gmail.com. (Trying to avoid that spam!)

Updated Polar Express Activities

I posted lots of activities for The Polar Express last year. I've learned a lot about making activities since then, so I've gone back and redone all the activities, added some new ones, correlated them to the Common Core ELA Standards, and put them into one big file.

Your students can practice sequencing activities, matching synonyms, parts of speech, and alphabetical order. I added cards with discussion questions for the book. If you don't have a copy of The Polar Express, you can listen to actor Lou Diamond Phillips reading it online at StoryLineOnline.
Just click on the pic above to get the file. Please leave a comment if you download the activities. I'd love to know what you think.

I've reached the one thousand followers mark, so be looking for details for a giveaway in the next few days!

The End -- Freebie on Cause and Effect and Synonyms

I love, love, love this story! And so do my students. It's a fairy tale told backwards, so they have to think a little as they try to identify the cause and effect. I added a freebie for synonym practice, too. Click on the pic to download. Please leave a comment!

Antonym and Synonym Matchup

Our story next week is Tops and Bottoms, by Janet Stevens.

To review antonyms and synonyms, I am going to give each child a card that has a word on it. They have to find the students that have the synonyms and antonyms that go with their word. Once the teams have found each other, they have to write an explanation that describes their relationships........what makes them antonyms and synonyms of each other.

This makes them think a little bit more than if they were only matching up with either a synonym OR an antonym. Click on the link below to download the activity.

Please leave a comment! Have a great rest of the weekend.

Spooky Synonyms!

One of our skills next week is identifying synonyms. We are going to play this game to get familiar with the words, then write spooky stories using the synonyms.
