Second graders must be able to distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words in the new Common Core standards.
Use this freebie in two ways!
(1) Students sort the words according to the long and short vowel sounds.
(2) After they have practiced reading the words, give them a timer and let them time themselves reading the words. Have them record their time and try to beat it on the next go-round!

Thanks for sharing! My students love getting out the timers and challenging each other.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all of these fantastic free materials you post. I'm returning to the classroom this fall after two years as an instructional coach, and I can't wait to use them with my students. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! You make terrific materials :)
