Monster Compound Words - Freebie

Here is an updated version of my Monster Compound Words card game. Students set the timer for five minutes. They draw cards, read the words, and use the word correctly in a sentence. If they are correct, they get to keep the card. If they draw a monster card, watch out!

Halloween Noun Sort - Freebie

Here's another oldie, but goodie...updated to include the Common Core standards for second and third grades.
Students sort common, proper, singular, plural, singular possessive, and plural possessive nouns. They have to think, because some of the nouns can be classified in more than one way!

Making Monster Sentences - Freebie

Here's more practice on expanding sentences....this time with a Halloween theme. 
Run off enough copies so that each child gets one monster feet card.
They can either write one simple sentence and build on it by adding details or start off by writing one expanded sentence.
A rubric is included.

Illustrating Expanded Sentences - Freebie

We are still expanding sentences.

We will be expanding sentences for awhile.

Probably all year.

But we are getting better!

And they like doing it!

After I gave them the sentence stems I posted earlier (click HERE to go to that post), I realized that drawing a picture of the sentence helped the kiddos see how using descriptive words  improved their writing.
So I decided to try getting them to illustrate the sentences each step along the process. Looking at a picture seems to help them realize they need to add more details to their writing.
Here are some of the results.

Halloween Fact Families - Freebie!

Since my kiddos have to be fluent with all addition and subtraction facts through twenty by the end of the year, we have been working with fact families a lot. Hand out the cards and get your kiddos to write the addition and subtraction facts for each family.
