Falling for Syllables - Freebie

Today I am thankful for my bathtub. I am ready to get in and relax with a good book. It's been a long day!

Our kids need lots of practice decoding multisyllable words. Use this activity in a literacy station. Once the kiddos sort the words, let them write a narrative using the vocabulary from the activity.

We're Going on a Syllable Hunt!

I'll admit that I haven't given the time and attention to breaking words down into syllables that I should.
Part of my Common Core Coach training sponsored by our State Department pointed out the need for segmenting words.

Since then, we are chunking, syllabicating, segmenting, dividing, splitting...you name it and we are doing it if it means breaking words apart into syllables!

I'd also like to give a shout out to a blogging friend of mine, Christine Mauro.

Spooky Syllables - Freebie

Here's a new take on syllable practice.
Match up the syllables to make words. The kiddos have to be careful and be sure the new words make sense.
After making words, use them in expanded spooky sentences.
