Parts of Speech - Freebie!

My group this year LOVES to glue!

(Go figure.)

So to give them a little bit of happiness and a review at the same time, I'm giving them this word sort based on parts of speech.

Review Time!

SAT 10 tests are this week.

I'm trying not to stress the kiddos out, yet still get some reviewing in.

One of the most fun ways to review is what we call a One Minute Race. I divide the kiddos up into two teams, call out a topic and set a timer for one minute. The teams have one minute to write as many words or terms that fit the topic I choose as they can. 

Here, the boys are trying to think of more contractions than the girls.

This gets them up and moving as an added bonus. Sometimes we play at our tables and write the answers on large sheets of paper.

I Hit the Jackpot!

I'm participating in my first Product Swap and I hit the jackpot!

I was lucky to  get to swap with Sara over at Smiling in Second Grade. (Click HERE to visit her blog. Be sure to become a follower if you haven't already!)

I was so excited to get her Sweet Synonyms packet to try out, but not nearly as excited as my kiddos were to get to play the fun games!

They really liked working with the puzzle pieces. 

Memory Match was a big hit, too.

What I liked was that the synonyms were a little more difficult than the usual words you find in some work.

There's also a Go Fish game (what kid doesn't like to play Go Fish?)

And that's not all.....

I used the worksheets Sara included to differentiate with the students that needed different types of reinforcement!

We wrapped up by playing I Have, Who Has as a fun review.

Morning Work Freebie!

I have had a fabulous weekend! My sweet niece got married to a wonderful man! That's my niece and my sweet daughter right after she caught the bridal bouquet. (That was quite a dive, Martha!)

And here's my niece with all her sweet friends.

It's going to be hard going in to school tomorrow, but at least my Morning Work is ready.

Kung Fu Pow-eeeee! Freebie!

I have several kiddos who are still struggling with reading words with a silent e on the end. So I made this new game to encourage them to practice their decoding skills.

Students read short and long vowel words and cover up the space if they are successful. The player or team that covers four spaces in a row wins the game. I'm going to use this on my Promethean Board and just write X's and O's on the squares if they read the word correctly and then place it in one of my literacy stations.
