Hoot Owl Possessives - Freebie

One of the easiest ways I've learned to get students to distinguish between singular and plural possessive nouns is to have them highlight the apostrophe in the word. Next, use a different color highlighter to highlight everything to the left of the apostrophe. That helps them see the base word before the apostrophe is added.

  1. I LOVE THE highlighter idea! I dread teaching apostrophes since then you end up seeing them everywhere...and usually where they don't belong!
