Spooky Place Value and Problem Solving -- Freebie!

We gave the Constructed Response Assessments in math yesterday. I tested a small group of students and realized they had trouble working the problems because they weren't able to transfer a math problem that was written horizontally to a vertical form and place all of the numbers in the correct place value.
This freebie is a simple way to practice adding and subtracting numbers, being sure to write the numbers in the correct place value position. Students pick two cards and use the numbers to write one addition and one subtraction problem. They must write the problem on their paper and solve it.

Just click on the picture above to get the freebie.

And on a not-so-spooky note, I just received word that I'm twenty-seven on the list of the Top Fifty Teacher Blogs published by Teacher Certification Degrees. Click on the pic below to visit their site and see the list.

Happy Fall, y'all!

  1. These are great! My only conplaint (request) would be that some of the top numbers had double zeros in them (ie. 500). This is what my kids are struggling with the most! Either way, I can't wait to print them out for next week!

  2. Congrats on your Top 50 placement, Mary! It is well deserved.
