This and That....and a Time Freebie!

What a week it's been so far! I had to miss a few days to help my parents out with some doctors' appointments.....my DSL line has been wonky and I couldn't post.....I feel like I'm behind in so many things...both at home and at school!
There's just not enough time!

And speaking of time......
that's our next skill in math.
I've made a whole packet on time for my Teachers Pay Teachers Store and Teachers Notebook Shop, but I wanted to offer a freebie, as well.
Our standard requires the students to tell time to the nearest five minutes, as well as relate it to either an a.m. or p.m. hour.
This worksheet is one of my favorite time-related activities.
Students pick a time (to the nearest five minutes) and write a sentence that describes what they would be doing at that time if it was a.m. and if it was p.m. After writing the sentences, they illustrate them.
If you'd like a copy, just click on the pic above. If you'd like the whole packet, click on one of the store links in the right sidebar.

If you have TIME....leave me a comment!

Here's to a happy Friday! We have a big day planned at our school tomorrow. I'm going to bed early to get ready.

Take five! for Nouns - Freebie

Review common and proper nouns with a quick category game. Students draw a card, set a timer, and list as many proper nouns that fit the category as they can in two minutes. They then add common nouns to their lists.

Click on the pictures above to get the file.

I've added a new product with a farm theme to my Teachers Pay Teachers store and Teachers Notebook shop with ten fun activities to reinforce and practice nouns...
collective nouns, possessive nouns, common nouns, proper nouns.....nouns, nouns, nouns!

Don't Get Struck by Lightning! - Plurals Freebie

It's Hump Day!
Celebrate with this card game for practicing plurals.
Students draw a card and name and spell the plural form of the word. If they are correct, they get to keep the card.
If not, they put the card back in the pile. If they draw a lightning card, they lose all of their cards. The winner has the most cards when the pile runs out.

Happy Day Off!

Happy Presidents' Day!
I hope you have the day off.
I can't decide if I'm going to catch up on school work, read, or de-clutter more of this stuff that finds it way into my house!
Hmmm.....

I did decide to make a quick freebie for you.
I'm using it tomorrow with my kiddos for a quick addition practice. They love Bump games, so I made a new one for them.
It's a fun and sneaky way to get them to practice their addition facts!

Just click on the pic above to get the file.

I've added some new products to my Teachers Pay Teachers store and Teachers Notebook shop this weekend, so go take a look. If you are looking for a product to address a specific skill, just contact me and I'll see what I can do to help out.

Have a great day!

President's Day Books and Freebies!

It's hard to believe Valentine's Day has come and gone. My kiddos were so excited to give me their cards, candy, and presents. I still remember how exciting it was when I was little, and that's been a few years ago! I tried to tell the kiddos about making sacks just like they did, but they just looked at me like there was NO WAY Mrs. Pitner EVUH - EVUH had been a little girl in second grade!

We are off Monday for President's Day, but I'm spending a little bit of the week talking about some of our presidents and reading some great books.
If you will click each of the pictures below, you can find some freebies I've made and am using in my stations.

If you are beginning your planning for March, I have several items in my Teachers Pay Teachers store and Teachers Notebook shop you might like. Click on the links to the right to visit!

Have a wonderful weekend recovering from Valentine's Day!

Fortune Teller Math Fluency Game

Looking for a fun way to practice Math fluency?

My block shared this activity with our parents at our Parent University Night. The parents loved it, the kids loved it, and we loved it!
The kids who came that night begged to teach it the next day to their classmates that couldn't come.
We've been playing it in any spare minutes we can find.

Take the face cards out of a deck of cards.
Three students play together.
One holds the cards and is the "Adder."
She sits in between the other two students, who sit facing each other.
The "Adder" gives each of the other two students a card, but they cannot look at it. They place it on their forehead so that the other player can see it, but they can't.
The "Adder" calls out the sum of the two cards.
The "Fortune Tellers" (the two other students) try to be the first to guess their number by subtracting the number on the card they can see from the Adder's total.
The kiddos don't even realize they are working on their addition and subtraction fluency while they are playing. All they know is that they are having fun.

(We had to have a talk about not spitting on the cards to make them stick to their foreheads!)

Try playing it one day this week and let me know what you think. I hope you have as much fun playing as we have!

Don't forget, if you need ideas for Valentine celebrations this week, everything Valentine and snow related in my Teachers Pay Teachers store and my Teachers Notebook shop is marked off!

Prefix Safari - mid and mis - Freebie!

Let's go on a safari!
We have worked with prefixes a lot this year, but this is our introduction to using mid- and mis-.

I'm using this in one of my literacy stations tomorrow. Students read sentences, choose the correct word, and spell it. The first player to the end of the track wins.
Just click on the pic above to download the game.
Have a great last day of the weekend!

Measuring Freebie and a Sale!

Here's a peek inside our Math class from Friday.

We are estimating and making actual measurements using centimeters and inches. I decided to treat the kiddos since they have worked so hard all week. We measured Smarties and Gummy Worms, but you could use any type of candy at all. (That's just what happened to be handy when I stopped at Walgreens before school!)
First, they estimated the length of each piece of candy in centimeters and inches. Next, they recorded the actual measurements. After they made a record sheet to hold all the info, they got to eat their candy.

Click on the pic above to download a record sheet to record the data.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner!

Thank you to all of you who entered my 1100 Follower Giveaway and helped me celebrate my the opening of my TpT store!

And congratulations to Traci!
You've won all those fabulous prizes from some very generous TpT store owners!
I'll be emailing you with the details!

Possessive Nouns Scoot!

We are working hard to master using apostrophes to make possessives. I think we will be working for quite awhile!
Today, I put a picture of each kiddo on their desk with some tablet paper. We took turns moving around the desks and writing a sentence with a possessive noun about the person in the picture.

Their last stop was a picture of me. I tried to hold as much as my arms could carry so that they would all have something funny to write about (including a cactus), but most of them wrote about my boots. Go figure.
(It's hard to see the little fellow because of the glare, but he's holding the chair up over his head!)

Thanks to all of you who entered my big giveaway. I'll be posting the winners tomorrow morning, so stay tuned.

Prefixes Write the Room - Freebie

A review of prefixes is coming up in our next unit.

To start us off  (and to wake us up since we will be doing this after lunch),  I'm giving the kiddos a Write the Room activity on prefixes.
I'm hiding twelve cards around the room. These cards have a word with a prefix that will complete one of the sentences on a worksheet. The kiddos will have to choose the right word to fill in the blank on the worksheet.

I'll reuse this again later on in the week, but that time they will have to find a hidden card and use the word in a sentence. I'll set a timer and see who can write the most complete sentences using the words in the time limit.

If you want the Prefixes Write the Room cards, worksheet, and answer key, click on the pic above. They are part of my Magical Prefixes packet in my Teachers Pay Teachers store and Teachers Notebook shop. Don't forget that both sites are having a big sale. All of my products are marked down at least 20%!

Have a great last day of the weekend.
Please leave me a comment if you download the activity. Use a word with a prefix and I will reload my page to read them all!

I woke up yesterday morning and decided to do a little work on my Teachers Pay Teachers store before the big sale this weekend instead of getting ready for school, so I was running a little behind. the list goes on and on! I haven't stopped to read (yet), but that is next on the list!

Before I get to my book and another closet (and another new product), I wanted to give you a new freebie!

Click on the pic above to get a Valentine themed multiplication Bump game.
